Nitri acidum
Abbreviation: Nit-ac. · Homeopathic materia medica (patient information)
English patient information. Some clinical wording may still reflect the German source text. Not for self-prescription.
The area of effect of Nitri acidum is the body openings, i.e. the places where the skin merges into the mucous membrane (the mouth, the corners of the mouth, the urethra, the nose and especially the anus). It causes pain that is characteristically splinter-like or fishbone-like (for example, in the throat or rectum). These are worsened by touch, if they are in the throat, i.e. by swallowing, in the anus by defecation, etc. Nit-ac. This is particularly suitable if the pain in the anus persists for a long time after a bowel movement, sometimes for hours. It heals painful fissures in the anus and hemorrhoidal disease if the other symptoms are correct. If there is secretion from the body openings, it is foul-smelling, thin and sore, and the pus is yellowish-green. Nit-ac. It also acts on the eyes and, for example, cures eye inflammation in newborns if the secretions from the eye are as described above.
The patient who received Nit-ac. needs, is very sensitive to noise, pain, touch (in the case of a headache against the pressure of the hat) and shock, for example when a car drives past on the street. On the other hand, his ailments improve when he rides in a car or carriage (deafness and epilepsy, relieved by riding in a carriage, were cured with Nit-ac.).
The secretions are foul-smelling and sore, both the sweat and the urine. A special note is “smell of sweat like urine”. The urine can also be very foul-smelling, sometimes like horse urine. The urine may also appear cold or it may actually be cold.
Like Mercurius, for the Nit-ac. is an antidote, the patient cannot tolerate either cold or heat.
Nit-ac. particularly suitable for dark people with black hair and dark eyes. The patients are rather thin and have a tight fiber.
They are tearful and hopeless, they despair and fear death, or they are very irritable and argumentative. They have fits of anger, swear, and can be malicious. As with Natrum muriaticum, they don't want to be comforted.
Some other symptoms associated with Nit-ac. make you think: The patients have a pronounced desire for fat; when chewing or speaking, they bite their cheek or tongue; Headache, as if the head were constricted by a band or as if the head were squeezed in a vice; to Nit-ac. must always be considered if a patient has warts or wart-like growths, especially if they are in the area of the body openings.
