Causticum is a deep-acting medication with a wide spectrum of effects. It particularly affects the nervous system. It produces progressive weakness, up to complete paralysis. The cause of caust diseases. is often due to a cold caused by cold wind (for example nerve pain or paralysis of the face after riding or driving in the cold), cold weather or getting wet. Conversely, the symptoms are better in warm, humid weather. This leads to paralysis of the voluntary muscles with stuttering, paralysis of the tongue and drooping of the upper eyelids (ptosis). When trying to chew, the patient bites his cheeks or tongue. The gait is unsteady, staggering and bumpy. These conditions are improved by local application of cold water. In children, nervous weakness becomes apparent when they learn to walk late.

The involuntary muscles are also affected. Fluid comes out of the nose when trying to swallow. The bladder sphincter is weakened and urine is released when coughing, sneezing and laughing. Children wet themselves, especially during their first sleep. Caust. Suitable for urinary retention that occurs in women after childbirth. Stool can also pass unnoticed. What's strange is that the chair is best removed while standing.

Causticum also has an effect on the musculoskeletal system. It cures contractures of flexor tendons, shortening of muscles, torticollis and the tendency to rheumatic joint diseases, which are better in warm, humid weather.

Causticum is particularly suitable for dark-haired people with tight fibers. The children also have black hair and dark eyes. You may have a bloated stomach and emaciated feet. There is a red stripe in the middle of the tongue and warts can be found on the skin, especially on the hands and face (on the edges of the eyelids and on the nose).

The Causticum patient suffers from discomfort caused by grief or long illness. He is melancholic, unhappy and without hope. Children cry at the slightest annoyance and are afraid of the dark and dogs. When they close their eyes, they see terrible images (Calc.). Caust. has a strange restlessness in the legs, especially in the evening and at night in bed.

In the middle picture there is a lot of hoarseness, for example from a cold, from cold weather, from talking or from singing. This can lead to vocal cord paralysis. The hoarseness of Caust. is worse in the morning (Phos. in the evening).

If a cough occurs, the sick person cannot cough deep enough to get the mucus out. The cough is worse from bending over and better from drinking some cold water. Caust. Also suitable for coughs during pregnancy.

Causticum patients have a craving for smoked foods.

Another area of ​​application is the treatment of the consequences of burns and scalds; in the initial stages it acts against the pain and later on the excess formation of scar tissue (scar keloid).
