Staphisagria creates a certain psychological state and is therefore able to heal people with this state of mind (law of similarity). The patient is very irritable and angry; even small things or the slightest wrong word throw him off balance. When he is agitated, he throws objects and shakes in anger. These outbursts of anger also lead to physical problems such as colic. In addition to these outwardly directed emotions, there is a state that is more inwardly directed. The patient is angry or indignant; he has been offended or humiliated and is therefore angry. He suppresses these feelings and then develops symptoms such as insomnia. The patient swallows his emotions and these come back as physical complaints.

The Staphisagria patient is also moody and very easily offended.

Staphisagria has a strong effect on urinary and sexual function. On a psychological level it creates great sexual desire, the thoughts constantly revolve around these things. There is a tendency towards sexual excess and masturbation. Women who suffer from bladder disorders after the first sexual contacts need Staphisagria. “Burning in the urethra, which becomes better with urination” is characteristic of Staphisagria. It also has a healing effect on surgical injuries to the urethra and other injuries as long as they were caused by a sharp, cutting object (e.g. a surgeon's scalpel) and the edges of the wound are clean.

Other areas of effect of Staphisagria are the eyes and the teeth.

On the eyes it heals nodules on the eyelids, be they styes or hailstones. It also heals if these are chronic (that means: keep recurring). It cures arthritic eye inflammation (and also arthritic finger joint knots).

The teeth are attacked and decay too quickly and too early. They crumble, rot and turn black. Staphisagria cures toothache, when it is worse, by the slightest touch, even of the tongue, by touching food and drink, but not by biting or chewing. The pain is also worse from drawing cold air into the mouth and from cold drinks.

The aggravation of pain by touch is a general feature of this medicine and also applies to headaches, for example. The pain seems to go from the inside out is another symptom.

Staphisagria is also a useful medicine for teething problems in children, or when toothache occurs during menstruation or pregnancy (see Sep.).

Another important symptom (among many others) is the feeling as if your stomach is hanging down in sleep.
