Argentum nitricum has a strange effect on the psyche. Patients have the urge to do everything in a hurry, they eat hastily, walk quickly and demand that others also hurry up.
If a special event is imminent, such as going to the theater or going to church, they are affected by stage fright and get diarrhea (see Gels.). They are afraid of appearing in public and in a crowd. Another strange trait is a fear of protruding corners of buildings and tall buildings. The sight of them makes the patient dizzy and he has the impression that the houses on both sides of the street are approaching each other. He thinks he can't get past certain points, so he avoids them or starts walking very quickly to get away. The patient is also afraid of high places and becomes dizzy. On the other hand, when crossing a bridge he feels the irresistible urge to jump into the depths.
Argentum nitricum is particularly suitable for hysterical, nervous people, and the symptoms are largely of a nervous nature. There is severe shaking, a nervous feeling, or the feeling as if certain parts of the body are squeezed in a vice. Or there is a feeling of expansion and fullness in different parts of the body. Some patients experience a tightening sensation, as if there was a band around the chest or waist, for example.
Typical for Argentum nitricum is a pain like that of a splinter (as with Nitric acidum).
On the part of the digestive organs, the following symptoms indicate Argentum nitricum as a remedy: Patients have an irresistible craving for sugar, which, however, worsens their suffering and can trigger massive diarrhea. Liquids that the patient has consumed appear to run through him. The stool is green and looks like chopped spinach. He comes out with a strong squirt. The abdomen is sensitive to clothing pressure. The patients become thin and dehydrated, and the children soon look like a withered old man. The emaciation progresses from bottom to top (the opposite of Natrum muriaticum).
Another area of effect of Argentum nitricum is the respiratory organs and the larynx. It cures hoarseness and loss of voice caused by singing, and coughs caused by singing in high pitches. The cough comes immediately after lying down and ends with sneezing.
